An Open Letter To You

by | September 29, 2016

Dear Friend,

How are you? I hope you’re doing fine… It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
I know this is long overdue but here it is.

I’ve been meaning to ask you, ‘why are you being a chameleon?’. You’re changing your
colors, constantly changing trying to make yourself ‘likable’.  Why are you worrying so rejected
much about what people think of you. You’re trying so hard for others that I fear you’ll soon dislike yourself. The way you talk, the way you dress, the way you act, your personality should not be conformed just to please the majority. Why go through such great lengths just to fit into some clique? You may not realize it now, but do trust me – those people aren’t worth it.

“So you’re a little weird? Work it! A little different? OWN it! Better to be a nerd than one of the herd!” – Mandy Hale

Keeping that in mind, I am writing this letter because I have a proposal for you!

To be yourself you have to take risks to realize your imperfections and accept them. Also, you have to have the courage to speak your mind and be comfortable.
individualityCan you do that? Can you at least try?

In today’s society, you seldom find someone with the courage to be strictly and uniquely themselves. It seems so much easier to be someone else and to imitate and clone to the letter someone whom we admire. Doesn’t that get tiresome or even torturous?

“Most people are other people; their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.” –Oscar Wilde.

A successful man once said, ‘to be natural is such a difficult pose to keep up.’ However, wouldn’t it be easier to be an original rather than a replica of someone else?
Lacking individuality and originality is a blemish that you can’t easily conceal. If one does the same as others, what is the purpose of one’s life? There are so many great minds that 112c89b1170ea3f6aa3b77915544b0d3dared to be different. How are you sure you’re not another one?
Each of us is a unique strand in the intricate web of life and here to make a contribution.

Grasp your individuality. Make a few mistakes, but learn from them. Let your experience guide the kind of person you choose to be – YOU CHOOSE TO BE. The road to doing so may be an obstacle filled one, but the road to success is not one easily traveled.

I truly do believe that one shouldn’t change for anyone. Ofcourse it were some very dire circumstances that gave me my wake up call, but what happened to me, I wouldn’t dare wish it on you. I came to the realization- and you should too, that people will come and go, but you will have to live with yourself your whole life, so you might as well make sure you like who you are.

Just be yourself. Let people see the real, imperfect, flawed, quirky, weird and beautiful person that your are.

Its like you’re gold being molded and fashioned into a masterpiece. There’s no doubt you’ll get a little dusty but that will make you all the more unique. Not everyone may like the caterpillar you are, but when you get out of this cocoon phase they will be amazed by the BeYou-tiful butterfly that you become.

Wishing you all the best!
Stay Blackened. Stay Golden.

Sincerely,
ME
