Cheers to the Weekend: Five Recreational things to do in T&T while at USC

by | January 8, 2018

It’s another weekend, you’re an international student and not quite sure how to spend your time. I mean you can always catch up on school work but I’m sure that’s not what you had in mind. Look no further, here’s five recreational activities you might be interested in while studying at USC.

  1. Five Islands Water and Amusement Park, Chaguaramas

Although the Water Park section of this park is still under construction (due to be completed in 2018), stopping by the Amusement Park is still worth the visit. The Amusement Park boasts both an indoor and outdoor component. Indoors you can find an arcade, food court, large trampolines and a rope course to release your inner child.

While, outdoors you can grab a surfboard and try your hand at the surf simulator. Don’t wipe out! How about ice-skating? Yes, you heard right! Ice-skating in Trinidad. Now for the main event (well for me at least), Go-Kart racing. Jump into your Kart and fulfil the need for speed thrill within you. Though I must warn you; a valid driver’s license is needed to participate as the driver in this ride. However, it is not required for passengers.

Price: $200TT to enter. Unlimited rides thereafter. (Group specials available)

  1. Tobago

You can’t come to Trinidad and not visit the Sister-Isle, that’s like drinking juice without ice. Tobago is surrounded with greenery and its pristine beauty provides a picturesque environment. The lifestyle in Tobago is much slower compared to Trinidad and encourages relaxation, rest and restoration. The perfect weekend getaway to place your mind at ease while studying.

Places of interest: Pigeon Point Beach Facilities, Store bay Beach Facilities, Argyle Waterfall, Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool

Price: $100TT (return fare by boat); $300TT (return fare by plane)

  1. Harry’s Water Park, Rio Claro

I mean you could literally go to Tobago and back via plane before you get to Harry’s Water Park. It’s approximately 1 hour and half’s drive from USC but the experience is worth it once you go with a group of friends. Not only is it equipped with water slides and water-related activities, but it also has a wildlife and log cabin component. The wildlife section displays various local animals found in Trinidad and Tobago.

Price: $150TT per person (Group Specials available)

  1. Emperor Valley Zoo, P.O.S
